If you’re searching for an authentic taste of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the heart of Birmingham, look no further than Taste of Khyber Restaurant. Located at 20 Alum Rock Rd, Saltley, this Pakistani eatery is a treasure trove of flavorful dishes that transport you straight to the vibrant streets of Pakistan. Known for its warm hospitality, this restaurant is ideal for both families and food enthusiasts alike.
Upon entering, the enticing aroma of spices fills the air, hinting at the culinary delights that await. The menu boasts an impressive array of dishes, but it’s their platters that truly steal the spotlight. The Platter 1, priced at £45, offers a sumptuous variety of delicacies including tender chicken tikka, succulent sheesh kebab, and flavorful kabuli rice, enough to satisfy a family of four. Patrons like Saliqur Rahman rave about the lamb chops, describing them as “the best I’ve ever had—so soft and juicy.” Culinary excellence truly shines through every morsel here.
For those who crave a rich, aromatic experience, the restaurant’s dumpukht, served only on weekends, is not to be missed. Regulars like Aqeel Khan highlight the tender meat that has melted in their mouths, an irresistible dish worth the wait. If you’re in the mood for something a bit more traditional, the famed Peshwari Chapli Kebab has received high praise from newcomers to the restaurant, with Shahid Ali acknowledging its delightful flavors and generous portions.
But let’s not shy away from the delightful sweet finish. The Kheer, offered at £5, has been described as creamy, though some may find it less sweet than expected. Regardless, it serves as a comforting end to a rich meal. Be prepared for a bustling atmosphere; the popularity of Taste of Khyber often leads to a packed house, and while this may require patience, it is a testament to the restaurant’s reputation for serving fresh, delicious food.
Overall, Taste of Khyber Restaurant is not just a dining establishment; it’s a culinary experience that captures the essence of Pakistani hospitality and flavor. With each dish, they create a sense of community and festivity, making it a must-visit for any food lover in Birmingham. So gather your loved ones and embark on a flavorful journey—you won't regret it!

Best dumpukht here served only on weekends. It was more like a rosh than dumpukht but loved it. The meat was so tender. The customer service is exceptional as always.

First time here, recommend by family member. I came in on Saturday evening it was full of customers, especially families. And had to wait for a table for at least 30 to 40mins but staff made sure we got seated, the service could have been better, Anyway I managed to taste the "famous Peshwari Chapli Kebab" it was very good and a joy to eat. The Chapli kebab was accompanied with a very large roti. And these kebabs were very large and perfectly seasoned spices and herb and very filling. Highly recommend to go on a weekday evening less hussle and waiting around.

Good food. Little grubby especially the toilets but the place is rammed all the time apparently. If turn over of people is high you know food is fresh but at the same time perhaps that why the place isn't that clean. Floor is sticky. 1 toilet and often a que. But you know what it might bother some but not myself. Im there for the food and it was good! Charsi lamb was on the bone 6/10. Not enough sauce Chapli kebab 7/10 Lamb chops, light seasoning but delicious. Back chop pieces were lovely. 8/10 Kheer was creamy but didn't have much rice, not very sweet either. Was more like firni.5/10 I will definitely come again and look forward to trying something else on the menu. Good service and good tasting food.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited as a family with our 2 year old, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. The customer service was incredibly friendly – Harry, who served us, made us feel truly welcome like guests in his home. He even offered us a comfortable family area at the back, which was perfect. For starters, we ordered Afghani Tikka, Chapli Kebab, and Malai Chicken Boti – each one was packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. For the main, we went with the 1kg Charsi Karahi, and the very first bite took our breath away – soft, tender, and simply delicious. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. This was honestly one of my best restaurant experiences, and I would definitely recommend it to family, friends, and anyone who appreciates authentic, high-quality food.

Really please with the food and staff! Walked in with a friend and I was a bit afraid of having the lamb as I’m not very keen on Lamb and the guy said “if you try the way we cook you’ll like”! And I did! I will definitely come back.
